Inside Porsche’s Zuffenhausen Plant as the GT3 Bergsport Takes Shape

The Porsche GT3 Bergsport starts its life on the same production process as every other 911 at Zuffenhausen. It is based on the current 911 GT3 with Touring Package and is developed by Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur.

Photographer Stefan Bogner was given behind-the-scenes access to document how the market edition is built, following it from body construction and painting through to final assembly.

A Single Line for More Than Six Decades

The 911 comprises about 1,900 components and is currently produced in 25 variants, from the classic Carrera to market editions such as the GT3 Bergsport and customer racing GT3 Cup models. Every variant has been built on a single production line at the Zuffenhausen headquarters for more than six decades.

A 911 takes about four days to complete. Robots handle tasks that demand precision and repeatability, while people remain central to craftsmanship and quality. Bogner says the line he saw is not a cold, automated assembly line but a line of people.

Hand Finishing Sets the Bergsport Apart

Body construction, painting and assembly for the GT3 Bergsport follow the standard 911 process, with Valleygreen metallic paint. Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur then adds bespoke details, premium materials and exclusive features.

These include a circular B-pillar badge reading “GT3 Bergsport,” a badge on the rear lid grille, embossed leather on the centre console lid, and orange, black and white stitching inside. The key, leather key pouch and documentation wallet are also made to match the car’s colour palette and logos.

The company presents the result as a car that combines efficient modern manufacturing with hand-crafted detail, and says each GT3 Bergsport leaves Zuffenhausen carrying the imprint of the people who built it.
