
DENZA, the premium technology brand under BYD Group, has revealed its first all-electric supercar, the Z, aiming to reset expectations for what a performance EV can deliver.
Built on DENZA’s e3 Sports Car Platform with a triple-motor setup producing 1,604PS and DiSus-M magnetorheological suspension, the Z pairs serious engineering with genuinely striking design.
Its headline party trick is FLASH Charging, which takes the battery from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes — meaning, DENZA argues, this is the first electric supercar whose performance can be used without constantly worrying about range or downtime.
The car made its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, unveiled by BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li alongside former F1 World Champion Jenson Button. Three versions are now confirmed — Coupe, Spider and Racing — plus a Special Edition that will attempt lap records at the Nürburgring Nordschleife this autumn.
Stella Li said the Z is “born to perform and built to win,” arguing that FLASH Charging makes it the only electric supercar where power, acceleration and dynamic ability come without compromise, calling it a clear signal of how DENZA’s technology-led approach will set new benchmarks across every segment it enters.
A Design Built Around Aerodynamics
The Z’s shape reflects DENZA’s “Technology Drives Elegance” philosophy, blending flowing curves with functional elements that generate real downforce. At 4,780mm, the Coupe and Spider are the most compact DENZA to reach European buyers yet.
BYD Global Design Director Wolfgang Egger described the car as “a living sculpture of speed,” with powerful fenders, a slim beltline and a low seating position reinforcing its stance.

Up front, sharp lower-bumper angles meet a distinctive LED daytime running light signature; at the rear, diamond-shaped taillights add sophistication. A multi-layer pearlescent paint process lets the finish shift subtly depending on viewing angle.
Functionally, an S-shaped airflow path — routing air from the front bumper intake through unique bonnet outlets — balances drag, downforce and heat management, underlining that the Z’s styling isn’t purely cosmetic.
Inside, the steering wheel takes center stage, drawing on motorsport design with six physical buttons for quick access to functions like Track and Boost modes. Materials run to carbon fibre, suede-effect fabric and metal trim, alongside an 8.88-inch digital instrument panel, a 12.8-inch infotainment screen and wireless phone charging.
Front seats get eight-way power adjustment, heating, ventilation, massage and built-in headrest speakers tied to the Devialet sound system (12 speakers in Coupe and Racing, 10 in Spider); Coupe and Spider models add active lateral seat support for high-speed cornering.
The Racing variant swaps in a re-engineered front air intake and multi-duct cooling system, boosting motor cooling efficiency by 50% and brake-disc cooling by 32%. It also adds a carbon-fibre front splitter, underfloor vortex generators and an optional adjustable carbon-fibre rear wing, growing slightly to 4,870mm and generating up to 1,060kg of downforce at 350km/h — all validated through testing at the Nürburgring.

Despite its compact footprint, the Z rides on a 2,780mm wheelbase, close to that of many executive saloons, allowing a genuine four-seat layout across all versions. Boot space runs to 250 litres in Coupe and Racing (550 litres with seats folded), while the Special Edition adds race-grade carbon-fibre bodywork and a drag-reduction system cutting drag by up to 40% while producing over 2,000kg of downforce at 300km/h.
The e3 Platform Powers Serious Numbers
Underpinning the Z is the e3 Sports Car Platform, built specifically for DENZA and centered on four core technologies: a triple-motor torque control system engineered for the track, Cell-to-Body battery integration, DiSus-M magnetorheological suspension, and FLASH Charging paired with the 2nd Generation Blade Battery.
All three versions share a triple-motor layout — one front motor, two independent rear motors — for combined output of 1,604PS and 1,240Nm. That’s enough for the Coupe to hit 0-100km/h in 2.25 seconds and a 300km/h top speed.

With optional semi-slick tyres, the Racing drops that sprint below two seconds, to 1.96 seconds, with top speed rising to 350km/h. The Special Edition goes further still, with enhanced thermal management boosting powertrain cooling by 180% and battery cooling by 30%, total output exceeding 2,000PS, and 0-100km/h in under 1.7 seconds.
The twin rear motors form part of a self-developed 15-in-1 integrated electric-drive unit spinning up to 30,000rpm, while Vehicle Motion Control acts as a central hub governing braking, suspension and steering with response times as fast as 10 milliseconds.
That integration enables features like a Tyre Burst Control System, which adjusts torque and power distribution in milliseconds after a blowout, and a “compass turn” function letting the car pivot its rear wheels around the front axle — made possible by the world’s first three-motor torque control system built specifically for track use.
DiSus-M, making its debut on the e3 platform, uses magnetorheological fluid that changes viscosity almost instantly under a magnetic field, letting the suspension adjust damping in real time.
Coupe and Spider use air suspension; Racing switches to coil springs for a more track-focused setup. All versions get carbon-ceramic drilled brakes — six-piston front, four-piston rear — saving roughly 30kg of unsprung mass and rated for up to 300,000km of service life, available in four caliper colors.
Charging Nearly as Fast as Refuelling
Every Z uses the same 76kWh 2nd Generation Blade Battery, delivering WLTP range of 410km (Coupe), 400km (Spider) and 380km (Racing). It’s built into the chassis using BYD’s Cell-to-Body architecture, which places cells directly into the structure rather than in a separate pack — up to 20% more space-efficient than traditional layouts and a contributor to the car’s torsional stiffness of over 40,000Nm per degree.

The real headline is FLASH Charging, capable of delivering up to 1,500kW through a single connector. That gets the Z from 10-70% in five minutes and 10-97% in nine minutes, with even a -30°C cold charge from 20-97% taking just 12 minutes — living up to BYD’s tagline of “Ready in 5, Full in 9, Cold Add 3.”
Achieving this without sacrificing safety required a new “FlashPass” ion transport system built on three breakthroughs: a directionally engineered “Flash-Release” cathode, an AI-optimized “Flash-Flow” electrolyte, and a multi-dimensional “Flash-Intercalate” anode — together cutting internal resistance and heat generation.
A reengineered Solid Electrolyte Interphase layer adds further stability, and the battery has passed a combined FLASH Charging and nail-penetration test with no thermal runaway even after 500 charging cycles, while also showing 2.5% less capacity degradation than the original Blade Battery.
A Cabin Built for Track Days
Beyond materials, the cabin leans into tech: ambient lighting that reacts to drive modes, Google Built-in for Maps, Assistant and Play Store, a digital rear-view mirror and power-closing doors. Devialet supplies the audio system, including a spherical central speaker module.
A virtual engine sound, adjustable through the infotainment system, can play inside the cabin, outside, or both, with a choice of conventional or sci-fi-inspired tones. Boost mode, triggered from the steering wheel, adds 30% throttle torque for 20 seconds.

Track mode opens a dedicated app offering real-time positioning, G-sensor data logging exportable via USB, launch control, a one-touch drift function, and three storable custom profiles covering power distribution, traction control, regenerative braking, DiSus-M damping and more.
Personalization and What Comes Next
Standard equipment across all versions includes the digital instrument cluster, heated/ventilated massage seats, Vehicle-to-Load, the Devialet system with Dolby Atmos, and DENZA app remote access. Buyers choose from 10 exterior colors — from Le Mans Blue to Monaco Red — and 10 interior finishes, with four brake caliper colors and, on the Spider, an optional colored roof.

Safety equipment includes six airbags plus a full driver-assistance suite covering fatigue monitoring, cross-traffic alerts, lane departure assist and blind spot detection.
Following its Goodwood debut, the Special Edition heads into further testing ahead of its Nürburgring lap-record attempt this autumn. The Coupe, Spider and Racing open for orders this summer in select markets, with first deliveries expected before year’s end.
