The new BMW 7 Series is showcased alongside “SYMBIOSIS,” an installation by Tokyo- and London-based artist duo A.A.Murakami, at the 21st edition of Contemporary Istanbul.
The work follows its appearance at Art Basel and arrives at Tersane Istanbul, with a VIP preview on September 23 and public days from September 24 to 27. The car’s monolithic design, interior, driving dynamics and craftsmanship are built into the artwork as part of its interplay between technology, design and physical experience.
Ephemeral Tech Meets the Neue Klasse Vision
A.A.Murakami’s “Ephemeral Tech” approach merges technology with physical and natural processes. The title, SYMBIOSIS, refers to two distinct organisms living together.
The installation pairs engineered sculptural forms with transient elements such as light, mist and bubbles, which shift with airflow, temperature, gravity and chance. BMW’s Neue Klasse vision, which centres on interaction between human and machine, provides the link to the artist’s approach.
BMW Symbiotic Drive as an Artistic Idea
The installation also brings BMW’s Symbiotic Drive concept into an artistic setting. BMW treats driver and vehicle as a coordinated system, in which human intent and intelligent driver-assistance systems work together. AI-supported systems anticipate and assist inputs for acceleration, braking and steering to make the interaction feel seamless.
Hakan Tiftik, CEO of Borusan Otomotiv, BMW’s representative in Türkiye, said the installation brings BMW’s technology, design and innovation to art audiences in Istanbul. He said the exhibition presents BMW‘s future-oriented vision in an experiential space.
