Mercedes-AMG is expanding its recently unveiled GT 4-Door Coupé lineup with the new GT 53 4-Door Coupé, a model that pairs unmistakable AMG DNA with cutting-edge technology, strong everyday usability, and long-distance comfort.
It delivers excellent performance, immediate power delivery and agile, precise handling, complemented by an immersive sound experience built around the character of an AMG six-cylinder engine.
Dr Stefan Weckbach, Chairman of the Management Board of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, said the GT 4-Door has already made a genuine statement as a highly dynamic vehicle that impresses in every respect. He said the family now expands with an attractive entry-level model at an equally attractive price, combining commanding drivetrain power with the emotional sharpness that defines Mercedes-AMG.
A Powerful, Efficient Electric Drivetrain
Two synchronous electric motors in the GT 53 4-Door Coupé jointly produce up to 400 kW (544 hp) of peak output. The rear-axle electric drive unit, using a permanently excited synchronous machine, achieves 93 percent efficiency from battery to wheel over long distances, aided by an innovative two-speed transmission.
A short first-gear ratio of 11:1 enables strong acceleration from a standstill and urban efficiency, while second gear (5:1) is tuned for high-speed power delivery, efficiency, range and motorway comfort, with shift points adapting to driving situation and DYNAMIC SELECT programme.
The front-axle electric motor acts as a boost unit, engaging via a Disconnect Unit when extra power or traction is needed and disengaging instantly under low load for greater efficiency.
Combined, both motors deliver 400 kW (544 hp) peak output, 800 Nm of torque, and 270 kW (367 hp) continuous output — enough for a 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.5 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 230 km/h, rising to 250 km/h with the optional AMG Driver’s Package.
An 800-Volt Battery Built for Range and Speed
At the heart of the car’s technology is a high-voltage battery with 106 kWh usable capacity, 800-volt architecture and directly cooled round cells, forming the basis for stable power delivery and a range exceeding 800 kilometers.
The cylindrical cells — 105mm tall, 26mm in diameter — minimize the distance from core to surface for efficient heat dissipation, while a laser-welded aluminium housing keeps weight down and improves conductivity.
A full-tab cell design reduces internal resistance for stronger charging and discharging performance, and a specialized NCMA cathode and silicon-containing anode chemistry deliver energy density above 298 Wh/kg. In total, 2,660 cells sit across 18 modules, individually cooled by electrically non-conductive oil.
Fast DC charging at 800-volt stations reaches up to 600 kW, adding over 534 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes. For longer breaks or regions with limited infrastructure, the system can automatically switch to 400-volt charging.
The Central Coolant Hub manages precise cooling across all components, combining pumps, sensors and valves in a compact housing. It can direct maximum cooling to every system during high-load driving or redirect capacity specifically to the electric drive units and Onebox when the battery doesn’t need cooling, supported by a chiller and both main and auxiliary radiators.
A Six-Cylinder Soundtrack, Digitally Recreated
Like the GT 63 and GT 55 4-Door Coupés, the GT 53’s AMGFORCE Sport+ programme delivers an emotionally staged driving experience, with simulated gear changes, noticeable traction interruptions and an authentically reproduced combustion engine sound referencing the former Mercedes-AMG E 53 Coupé’s 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine.
Rather than simply imitating engine noise, Mercedes-AMG’s acoustics specialists studied the real sound of an AMG inline six-cylinder in detail, capturing its character across 16 microphone positions inside and outside the car and running more than 100 precision measurements on a rolling road.
The goal was to digitize every nuance of the authentic AMG sound and make the full acoustic spectrum tangible. Manual gear changes remain possible via steering wheel paddles in AMGFORCE Sport+, complemented by an adapted central-tube driver display.
All-Wheel Drive and Adaptive Suspension
The AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension, with air springs and adaptive damping, shifts between relaxed long-distance cruising and firm, sporty precision depending on driving conditions, adjusting damping at each wheel through separate valves for rebound and compression.
Drivers can also pre-select Comfort, Sport or Sport+ damping characteristics. The GT 53 uses AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, with fully decoupled electric motors enabling maximum flexibility in torque distribution between front and rear wheels.
Aerodynamic Design for Performance and Stability
The GT 53’s silhouette — a dynamic fastback, long bonnet, steeply raked windscreen and distinctive rear diffuser — signals serious performance intent, with the new GT 4-Door Coupé built 4cm flatter than its predecessor despite housing the battery in the underbody.
Two active AEROKINETICS elements manage rear airflow: the standard rear spoiler, which stays retracted below 150 km/h before adjusting its angle at higher speeds to optimize aero balance, stability or drag, and the optional rear diffuser, which extends the vehicle’s contour to reduce air resistance and improve efficiency on long motorway journeys.
A Cabin Balancing Sports Car Focus and GT Comfort
Inside, a low, driver-focused seating position pairs with a seamless-glass instrument cluster and multimedia display, including a 14-inch central touchscreen angled toward the driver and an optional separate front-passenger display. The centre console carries the Response Control rotary dial, AMG and GT badging, an armrest storage compartment, dual wireless charging trays and illuminated cupholders.
Front seats offer strong lateral support alongside GT-level comfort, while the rear features individual seats, generous space and thoughtfully designed footwells. The SKY CONTROL panoramic roof extends to the rear window with individually switchable transparency, complemented at night by illuminated crest and Racing Stripe lighting.
Personalization Through Response Control and AMG SET-UP
The Response Control rotary dial lets drivers fine-tune throttle responsiveness independently of the selected driving programme, spanning comfort-oriented to sharp and spontaneous.
AMG SET-UP allows further customization, including reordering steering wheel functions and manually deploying the active rear spoiler and diffuser at low speed for added presence in traffic. A Sound Slider offers Powerful, Balanced and Minimal modes on a Classic-to-Futuristic scale for personalized in-cabin audio.
