The all-new Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric has been named “German Premium Car of the Year 2027” by the German Car of the Year (GCOTY) Awards, with the honor presented at a ceremony held at the Nationales Automuseum – The Loh Collection.
The jury, made up of German automotive journalists, established content creators and international judges, cited the car’s well-rounded overall concept and balanced, comfortable driving character.
The award reinforces the strength of the GLC nameplate, long Mercedes-Benz’s best-selling model line worldwide, with the company framing the electric version as carrying forward the qualities that made the GLC popular while adding a new design language and more intuitive digital features for its next chapter.
GLC Electric , Built Around Everyday Use
Mercedes-Benz developed the electric GLC with a clear focus on daily usability, aiming to combine long-distance comfort, practicality and ease of use with the kind of premium refinement customers expect.
The car’s generous interior space and comfort level are meant to make electric driving feel seamless rather than like a compromise, an approach the brand ties to its broader “Welcome home” positioning — built on advanced safety and driver-assistance systems alongside a more human-centered user experience.
Mercedes-Benz is highlighting the win as further proof of that philosophy during its “140 Years of Innovation” anniversary year, pairing new technology with the values it says have defined the brand since the automobile’s invention.

What’s Under the Award-Winning Sheet Metal
The electric GLC’s optional AIRMATIC air suspension and 4.5-degree rear-axle steering are built to deliver both ride comfort and agility, while a 128-liter front trunk and towing capacity of up to 2.4 tonnes support everyday, leisure and travel use.
Inside, an optional MBUX Hyperscreen — at 99.3cm, the largest display Mercedes-Benz has ever offered — runs on the Mercedes-Benz Operating System, tying together infotainment, comfort, charging and driver assistance while supporting regular over-the-air updates through the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud.
Driver assistance comes bundled under MB.DRIVE, with DISTRONIC Distance Assist and Parking Assist standard, and optional packages extending to SAE Level 2 assisted driving and 360-degree surround-view parking.
How the Award Is Decided
The GCOTY jury, which has included a rotating group of guest judges since 2026, test-drives and evaluates every significant new vehicle launch on the European market each year, assessing cars both against direct segment rivals and in a broader cross-category comparison to identify the year’s standout new models.
