Polestar has launched the Polestar 4 SUV, a new body style built on the recently updated Polestar 4 coupé, aimed at bringing more cargo space and everyday usability to the model without losing what defines it.

CEO Michael Lohscheller said the SUV is meant to broaden the appeal of Polestar’s most successful model and push further into one of the industry’s most important segments, while staying true to the brand’s design, technology and driving character. Production has begun at Polestar’s Busan, South Korea plant, with the first shipment of cars now on its way to customers.

A Redesigned Rear and an Expanded Palette

The SUV keeps the coupé’s dual-blade headlights and illuminated Polestar logo up front but gets a straighter roofline and more upright tailgate out back, along with full-length roof rails rated for 100kg of dynamic load. The exterior color range grows to eight options, adding a bright silver-green Aurora and bright silver-purple Ozone, both also available in matte finish.

Inside, the cabin carries over the coupé’s minimalist, tech-forward design, including solar-system-inspired ambient lighting with selectable cosmic themes and Star Knit trim, along with a landscape-oriented center and driver display that now supports nine widget shortcuts instead of six.

An optional 12-speaker, 1,400-watt Harman Kardon sound system has been specifically tuned for the SUV. Material choices lean into sustainability, with standard bio-attributed MicroTech trim, optional 3D-knitted Tailored Knit upholstery made from 89% recycled PET, and traceable, chrome-free Bridge of Weir Nappa leather available as an upgrade.

More Room, More Light

The upright rear design gives second-row passengers an extra 2.5 centimeters of headroom compared with the coupé, enhanced further by a larger standard panoramic glass roof that runs all the way to the tailgate and blocks 99.5% of UV rays.

An SUV-exclusive electrochromic glass roof is available as an option, letting occupants adjust tint through the center display between fully clear, fully tinted or selectively shaded zones. The SUV also adds a conventional rearview mirror as standard, thanks to a new rear window, with the coupé’s digital rearview mirror available as an option.

Cargo capacity totals 1,680 liters, including 530 liters behind the second row up to the seatbacks or 655 liters up to the roofline, expanding to 1,665 liters with the 60/40 rear seats folded down.

Two Powertrains, One Shared Platform

Built on the same SEA architecture as the coupé, the Polestar 4 SUV comes in dual-motor all-wheel-drive and single rear-motor configurations. The dual-motor version produces 400kW and 686Nm of torque, reaching 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds with up to 600km of WLTP range, while the rear-motor variant makes 200kW and 343Nm, hitting 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds with up to 630km of range.

Both draw from a standard 100kWh battery supporting up to 200kW DC and 22kW AC charging in select markets. Buyers chasing sharper handling can opt for the Performance pack, which adds recalibrated ZF active dampers, Brembo brakes with gold-finished calipers, and 22-inch wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tires. Joakim Rydholm, Polestar’s Head of Driving Dynamics, said the SUV builds directly on the coupé’s recently sharpened chassis tuning to deliver the same confidence and precision Polestar customers expect.

Drivetrain choice is visually marked inside the cabin too, with black seatbelt and rotary-knob trim on rear-motor cars, a gold stripe on dual-motor versions, and full Swedish gold trim on Performance pack cars.

New Features Across the Lineup

All Polestar 4 vehicles now gain Vehicle-to-Load capability, allowing the battery to power external devices like camping gear or power tools at up to 3.3kW through a separately sold adapter, with a configurable minimum battery reserve.

The SUV also introduces a Camping mode that turns the parked car into a climate-controlled space with entertainment, lighting and V2L power accessible from both front and rear displays.

On the software side, Google Gemini now replaces Google Assistant across all Polestar markets, offering more natural, context-aware voice interaction and multi-turn conversations, along with Gemini Live for hands-free trip planning, brainstorming and real-time translation.

Emissions, Pricing and Availability

Polestar says the SUV’s cradle-to-gate carbon footprint — 21.1 tCO2e for the dual-motor version and 20.2 tCO2e for the rear-motor version — ranks among the lowest in its lineup, aided by 100% renewable electricity in battery cell production and aluminum sourcing that’s 34% renewable-powered and 23% recycled. U.S. pricing starts at $73,900 for the rear-motor SUV and $81,750 for the dual-motor version, with Performance pack models starting at $95,450; additional options, including a premium Plus pack, Nappa leather upgrade and various single-item extras, are available at extra cost. First customer deliveries are planned for the fourth quarter of 2026.
