Bentley Motors marked 80 years of craftsmanship in Crewe with a gathering of more than 100 customer-owned Bentleys spanning the brand’s entire history.
The event, joined by the Bentley Drivers Club celebrating its own 90th anniversary, also saw the unveiling of a unique Continental GTC finished in bespoke Purple Supernova Ombre, created to honor the artisanship behind Bentley’s Dream Factory.
For 80 years, Bentley’s Crewe headquarters has combined craftsmanship, innovation and meticulous attention to detail. Since the first Bentley rolled off the Pyms Lane production line in 1946, generations of skilled workers have handcrafted the brand’s cars, blending techniques passed down over decades with modern engineering and manufacturing advances.
107 Cars Return to Where They Were Built
Marking the milestone, 107 Bentleys owned by Bentley Drivers Club members returned to Crewe, lining Pyms Lane in chronological order of production. The display began with EXP3, the first Bentley ever delivered to a customer, and ended with a 2025 Flying Spur Speed — spanning every significant era of the marque’s history, from the original W.O. Bentley cars and the Derby years through the modern Crewe-built range, including everything from iconic Blowers to today’s Bentayga.
Owners traveled from around the world to bring their cars back to the place where generations of Bentleys have been handcrafted, celebrating more than a century of heritage alongside eight decades of craftsmanship in Crewe.
Andreas Lehe, Bentley’s Member of the Board for Manufacturing, said it’s the extraordinary people of Crewe who have defined the company’s success for 80 years, with generation after generation combining craftsmanship, passion and innovation to build some of the world’s most desirable cars. He said Bentley remains equally focused on the future, investing in world-class facilities, advanced technologies and sustainable manufacturing as part of its transformation into a next-generation Dream Factory.
A Site Built on Continuous Reinvention
Originally constructed in 1938 to build Rolls-Royce Merlin aero engines before becoming Bentley’s manufacturing home, the Crewe site has evolved continuously while staying rooted in its heritage.
Eight decades on, the campus is nearing completion of its most significant transformation yet, as Bentley develops a digital, flexible next-generation Dream Factory designed to build both current and future products while preserving the craftsmanship that has defined the brand for generations.
A One-Off GTC Built for the Occasion
To mark the milestone, Bentley created a unique one-off vehicle through Mulliner, its personal commissioning division. Finished in an exclusive Supernova Purple Ombre paint developed specifically for the occasion by Bentley’s Paint Shop and CMF/Bespoke teams, the exterior transitions seamlessly from Supernova Purple to Supernova Purple Dark, complemented by a bespoke “80” side graphic with a reverse ombré effect.
The commemorative theme continues through contrasting wheel finishes and into the handcrafted cabin, where embroidered “80” headrests and a bespoke airbrushed fascia graphic depict the iconic Design Studio building alongside a tribute to eight decades of manufacturing in Crewe. The car stands as a contemporary expression of the craftsmanship and attention to detail that have defined Bentley’s Crewe home for 80 years.
Looking Ahead to Torcal and Electric Production
Today, Crewe remains the heart of Bentley, bringing together design, R&D, manufacturing and commercial operations on a single integrated campus. In recent years, the company has reimagined the site with new facilities including the Design Studio, Engineering Technical Centre, Excellence Centre for Quality and Launch, Integrated Logistics Centre, and the Paint Shop, officially opened by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal earlier this month.
Ahead of the global launch of Torcal, Bentley’s next model, work continues to convert the oldest building on-site into the assembly facility for the company’s first electric car, due to launch in September.
