GM built the all-electric Cadillac Escalade IQ by first studying how owners actually use their vehicles, then engineering technology around those specific habits. Internal GM research found the Escalade IQ delivered a notably stronger customer experience than rivals in its segment, with cameras, climate and comfort features, and personalization driving much of that advantage.
Turn-signal-mounted side cameras help build driver confidence around blind spots, additional camera views assist with tight low-speed maneuvers, and a dedicated HVAC screen lets drivers adjust climate settings without digging through infotainment menus.
Profile-based personalization also helps a vehicle shared among multiple drivers feel tailored to whoever’s behind the wheel.
Turning Insight Into Features
Mandi Damman, executive chief engineer for the Escalade IQ, said the pressure to impress a discerning customer base means every piece of technology — from the pillar-to-pillar display to each individual camera — has to be integrated seamlessly rather than bolted on.
Julia Hedrick of Global Customer Research added that GM tracks which technologies, experiences and messaging actually resonate with specific customer segments and brands, insight that shaped features like the Rear Camera Mirror, power-closing doors and Super Cruise.
Each addresses a specific need — visibility, convenience or reduced fatigue on long drives — rather than technology added for its own sake, while premium audio and in-cabin cameras support daily comfort and connection. GM says that same customer feedback loop continues shaping future vehicles, including more integrated, over-the-air-updatable software-defined technology.
