Hyundai Motor Company has appointed Bradley J. Arnold as Chief Designer and Head of Hyundai Design North America, based at the company’s Irvine, California facility.
The role positions Arnold at the forefront of shaping future vehicle concepts and production designs specifically tailored for the North American market.
This appointment formalizes Arnold’s leadership after serving in an interim capacity throughout 2025, during which he directed both production vehicle development and conceptual design initiatives. The move underscores Hyundai’s strategic emphasis on design-driven differentiation as a core competitive advantage.
Executive Leadership Praises Customer-Focused Approach
Luc Donckerwolke, executive vice president and chief creative officer of Hyundai Motor Group, characterized design as the most visible manifestation of brand identity.
He credited Arnold with possessing both creative boldness and deep understanding of North American consumer preferences—qualities the company views as essential for developing vehicles that resonate emotionally while maintaining global appeal.
SangYup Lee, executive vice president overseeing global design operations for Hyundai and Genesis, highlighted Arnold’s nearly two-decade track record across prestigious international automotive brands. Lee expressed confidence that Arnold’s creative direction would accelerate the momentum already established in Hyundai’s current design trajectory.
XRT Off-Road Strategy Central to New Role
A significant component of Arnold’s recent work involves developing Hyundai’s XRT off-road vehicle lineup. He spearheaded this initiative from “The Sandbox,” a specialized creative environment within the California Design Studio that functions as the worldwide center for XRT model development.
This studio has already yielded tangible results, including the 2026 Palisade XRT PRO and the CRATER Concept, with additional XRT-branded models currently advancing toward production status. The off-road-focused strategy represents a notable expansion of Hyundai’s product portfolio targeting adventure-oriented consumers.

Arnold’s automotive design career spans 18 years with experience at both Hyundai and General Motors. His recent portfolio at Hyundai includes significant contributions to the 2023 Palisade refresh and the 2022 Santa Cruz, along with earlier work on the Genesis GV80 Concept showcased at the 2017 New York Auto Show.

During his initial stint at Hyundai from 2008 to 2011, Arnold contributed to the Genesis Coupe exterior redesign and the Curb Concept interior. His five-year period at GM Design in California saw involvement with high-profile projects including the Cadillac Elmiraj Concept and various Chevrolet concept vehicles.
Since rejoining Hyundai in 2016 and formally leading the exterior design team from 2021, Arnold has steadily expanded his influence across the brand’s North American design operations.
