Volkswagen will hold the world premiere of the new ID. Tiguan in early October, with market arrival set for the beginning of 2027.
The car continues VW’s strategy of carrying established nameplates into its electric lineup, following the ID. Polo and ID. Cross, and arrives as a new-generation electric SUV with an entirely new design that VW says gives it the visual presence of a vehicle a segment above where it sits. The ID. Tiguan will succeed the ID.4 and ID.5, and will be sold alongside the standard combustion and hybrid Tiguan rather than replacing it — giving customers a choice between powertrains under one recognizable name. Until the reveal, the car remains in camouflage-wrapped testing.
Why VW Is Betting on the Tiguan Name

Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand and Head of Brand Group Core, pointed to more than 8.3 million Tiguans produced to date as proof of the nameplate’s strength, describing the Tiguan as a versatile, premium vehicle that embodies what he calls “True Volkswagen.” He said the ID. Tiguan carries that same promise into the electric era, building on the combustion model’s strengths with premium design, generous interior space, intuitive controls and new technology, positioning the two versions together to cover different customer powertrain preferences.
A Nameplate Already Carrying the Brand
The Tiguan is currently Volkswagen’s best-selling model globally, for both the VW brand and the wider Volkswagen Group.

Combined deliveries of the Tiguan and its sister model, the Tayron — both offered with petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains — topped one million units last year alone.
On the electric side, the ID.4 and its fastback counterpart, the ID.5, have also performed strongly, with combined deliveries exceeding 950,000 units since 2021, making them among Volkswagen AG’s most successful battery-electric model lines to date.
