Volkswagen has opened pre-sales for a new ID. Polo variant fitted with a smaller 37-kWh battery, arriving just weeks after the car’s initial 52-kWh version.
The entry-level Trend trim starts at €24,995 with this battery, while the mid-tier Life and top Style trims are available from €29,195 when paired with it. VW is positioning the smaller battery as a lower-cost entry point into electric driving, aimed squarely at commuters and city dwellers rather than long-distance drivers.
The car can recharge from 10 to 80 percent in about 23 minutes on a 90-kW DC fast charger, and VW points to reduced upfront cost, favorable insurance ratings and efficient energy use as the main appeal for price-conscious buyers.
The launch adds to early momentum for VW’s Electric Urban Car Family, part of the Brand Group Core lineup, which has already logged more than 70,000 orders in its first few weeks, including 25,000 for the ID. Polo specifically.
Three Trim Levels, Three Different Buyers
The Trend trim serves as the ID. Polo’s base version, pairing standard 90-kW fast-charging capability with driver-assist features like Side Assist and Lane Assist with Emergency Assist, alongside LED headlights with main-beam control, a 10-inch Digital Cockpit, a 13-inch Innovision infotainment system, a leatherette steering wheel and automatic climate control.
Stepping up to Life adds comfort-oriented tech, including adaptive cruise control, a rear-view camera, front and rear park distance sensors, and Front-Cross Traffic Assist, along with an auto-dimming mirror, memory-equipped folding exterior mirrors, voice control, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto through App Connect, inductive phone charging and a variable boot floor.
The range-topping Style trim brings IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights with an illuminated light strip, 3D LED taillights, an illuminated VW badge, sport seats, ambient lighting and upgraded materials, plus heated seats and steering wheel and two-zone climate control.
It also introduces an updated version of VW’s ID. Light system, which now extends into the front doors and can warn occupants of approaching traffic before they open a door, in addition to its existing navigation and charging-status cues.
Options Rare for This Segment
VW is also offering equipment uncommon in the small-car class, including a 425-watt Harman Kardon sound system with 10 speakers and a subwoofer, a panoramic glass roof, and 12-way power-adjustable front seats with a pneumatic massage function across three programs and driver-side memory settings.
