BMW Group has delivered its two-millionth fully electric vehicle since the original BMW i3 launched in late 2013, with total electrified deliveries — including plug-in hybrids — reaching roughly 3.5 million worldwide over the same period.
Electrified models accounted for more than one in every four vehicles BMW sold globally in the first half of 2026.
Jochen Goller, the BMW AG board member responsible for Customer, Brands and Sales, credited the milestone to how well BMW and MINI’s electric models are resonating with buyers, pointing specifically to Europe, where momentum has kept building since the BMW iX3 launched and where the brand is closing in on 100,000 new iX3 orders — evidence, he said, of how central the Neue Klasse platform is to BMW’s broader electrification push.
Europe Leads the Growth
European BEV sales rose sharply in the second quarter of 2026 as iX3 availability improved, climbing 38% year-over-year to 81,445 units.
Fully electric vehicles made up about 28% of BMW’s total European sales in the first half of the year, and since the iX3’s debut, one in every three fully electric BMW vehicles ordered in Europe has been an iX3 — a car that now accounts for half of all orders within the broader X3 family.
Where the Milestone Car Was Built
The two-millionth BEV itself, a BMW i5 M60 xDrive, was built at Plant Dingolfing and delivered to a customer in Spain.
BMW Group Plant Munich, meanwhile, began series production of the new BMW i3 in August — the second model built on the Neue Klasse platform — and Goller said demand has already been strong since orders opened ahead of the car’s official launch, pushing the plant into a steep production ramp-up.
Building on a Longer History
BMW Group frames its current lineup of BEVs and plug-in hybrids as the result of groundwork laid more than 50 years ago, when the company first began investing in electric mobility, positioning it to keep expanding its electrified range as demand continues to grow.
