Lexus held the world premiere of its updated NX on September 1, with a global rollout planned for late 2026. The NX has been a cornerstone of the brand’s SUV lineup since debuting in 2014 as Lexus’s first compact crossover, and has since sold roughly 1.9 million units across more than 90 countries and regions as of July 2026.
The refreshed model carries the theme “DISCOVER YOUR EDGE,” an extension of the brand message Lexus introduced at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, and centers on an all-new hybrid system meant to sharpen driving performance while keeping the sporty, utility-focused balance that’s defined the NX across generations.
Exterior styling grows more dynamic, while the interior shifts to a simpler, horizontal layout designed to feel open and relaxed. A new “Sensory Concierge” feature adds personalized lighting and fragrance to the cabin, aiming for a living-room-like atmosphere.
The Thinking Behind the Redesign
Kunihiko Endo, Chief Engineer at Lexus International, said the NX has succeeded by continuing to push past convention while still feeling like the right fit for a wide range of lifestyles.
He described the “DISCOVER YOUR EDGE” theme as the guiding idea behind the new model — building a car that makes a driver’s sense of possibility feel like it’s expanding from the moment they start driving, even to the point of wanting to take a longer route home just for the experience.
That meant designing a simple, clean cockpit, refining sporty performance through electrification, adding more flexibility around charging, and giving occupants control over cabin lighting and scent to match their mood, all while keeping the sportiness-and-utility balance that’s long defined the NX.
Four Powertrain Options
The updated NX grows slightly, with overall length up 30mm to 4,690mm, while width (1,865mm), height (1,660mm) and wheelbase (2,690mm) stay unchanged.
Lexus is offering four prototype-stage variants: a 450h+ with a 2.5-liter engine and all-wheel drive, a 350h also using a 2.5-liter AWD setup, and two 300h versions — one with a 2.5-liter engine in front-wheel drive, the other with a smaller 2.0-liter FWD configuration.
All four use an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. Combined system output ranges from 215-240kW on the top 450h+ down to 145kW on the base 300h, with the 450h+ reaching 100 km/h in around 6.0 seconds, the 350h in 7.1-7.8 seconds, and the 300h in about 9.2 seconds.
The 450h+, Lexus’s plug-in hybrid variant, is expected to offer more than 40 miles of EV-only range in North America, over 100km in Europe, and over 140km in Japan, though all figures remain tentative ahead of the car’s final production specifications.
