Hyundai Motor Group has opened “Have Fun with Science,” a free hands-on science exhibition developed with the Exploratorium, San Francisco’s museum of science, art and human perception.

It runs from October 6 to December 15 on the fifth floor of Hyundai Motorstudio Seoul and offers 12 interactive experiences covering movement, ecology, light and sound. The show also serves as a testing ground for the Group’s experiential science museum, scheduled to open in 2032 at the Global Business Complex (GBC) in Seoul’s Gangnam business district.

Visitor comments and reactions will be collected to inform the museum’s content. Sungwon Jee, Executive Vice President and head of Hyundai Motor Group Brand Experience, said the Group wants to share parts of the museum as it develops and listen closely to feedback.

The Exploratorium Connection

The exhibition builds on a strategic partnership the two organizations signed in April 2026. The Exploratorium sits at Pier 15 on San Francisco’s Embarcadero and was founded in 1969 by physicist Frank Oppenheimer on the idea that people learn science by doing rather than watching.

It draws nearly 750,000 visitors a year and has influenced interactive science museums around the world. Anne Richardson, its Chief Experience Officer, said prototyping is central to how the museum develops experiences and that the team is eager to learn from the community while shaping the future Seoul museum.

What Visitors Will Find

The Seoul show follows a 2024 science pop-up at Hyundai Motorstudio Goyang. Among the 12 exhibits, Find Your Balance has visitors stand on a moving board to test their balance, and Chain Reaction uses cascading dominoes to show how energy transfers.

Cooperation Game rewards teamwork, Wind-Carved Landscape is an interactive artwork showing how wind builds dunes and desert ridges, and Future Proof invites visitors to look at technologies, cultural trends and environmental issues relevant to the years ahead.

Three activity programs let visitors connect electrical circuits and electronic devices to explore how electricity works. A Scribbling Machine workshop, open by pre-registration or on-site sign-up, has participants build a drawing device driven by rotational motion. All exhibits and programs are free with a Hyundai Motorstudio membership.

Opening Night and Next Steps

On the evening of October 6, an adults-only opening event called Spin the Night welcomed members of science museum communities and Motorstudio Seoul membership customers.

Built around the idea of “spin,” it included a Science of Cocktails session pairing drinks with scientific explanations, and a Take Apart program in which guests dismantled everyday electronics.

The Group will invite science and creative communities across Korea to take part, building a wider collaboration network, and will analyze visitor feedback to refine the content and operating approach of the GBC museum.
