Bentley has revealed the Torcal, its first fully electric model and, according to Chairman and CEO Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser, a template for how future Bentleys of any powertrain will be designed, engineered and built.
Walliser framed the car as an extension of everything Bentley has stood for across 107 years — effortless performance, comfort, British craftsmanship and a distinctive soundtrack — pushed further than before. Designed under Design Director Robin Page at Crewe, the Torcal is a low, sleek SUV built around a new design language while staying rooted in Bentley’s established DNA.
A Design Built Around Four “Reads”
Page described Bentley’s design approach as a hierarchy of perception, structured around four “reads.” The first is proportion: a long wheelbase, short overhangs and a proud front end create the “upright elegance” and “endless bonnet” effect central to Bentley’s design principles.
The second read covers graphic identity, particularly the face, where lighting technology and an illuminated diamond grille reinterpret cues from cars like the Continental T, while a clean rear graphic forms what Bentley calls the “prestigious shield,” a concept first explored on the EXP 15 concept car.
The third read is surface language — how light plays across the car’s sculpted volumes, most visible in the tapered cabin and muscular rear haunches Bentley describes as a “resting beast.” The fourth read is detail, where a recurring diamond motif appears throughout the car, sometimes literal and sometimes abstracted into textures and patterns.
That same philosophy continues inside, where a wing-inspired dashboard layout, sheer surfaces in leather, wool, veneer and aluminum, and knurled controls with reinterpreted bullseye air vents carry Bentley’s “magical fusion” of craft and technology into the cabin — while keeping physical controls on the center console and steering wheel for tactile use.
Seats, Wheels and a New Emblem
Standard seats offer 16-way adjustment, heating, ventilation, adjustable bolsters and a new massage function, with optional Postural Adjust and Smart Seat Climate systems continuously tuning seat shape and temperature for long-distance comfort; a dedicated Wellness Seat option extends massage coverage into the leg area, and the rear three-occupant seat gets Bentley’s first power-fold system.
Five wheel designs are available across 21- and 22-inch sizes, including an aerodynamically focused option and a full range of summer, winter and all-season tires, and the Torcal becomes the first Bentley to wear the brand’s redesigned emblem introduced last year.
Performance Built Around Precision, Not Just Speed
The Torcal produces up to 888 PS and 1,350 Nm of torque — the highest of any Bentley ever built — reaching 60 mph in 2.8 seconds (0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds), figures Bentley’s R&D team deliberately capped short of more extreme acceleration levels that testing showed most customers find uncomfortable.
Power comes from a pair of oil-filled, dry-sump permanent magnet synchronous motors, with an open front differential and a locking rear differential using multi-plate clutches on each output shaft, drawing from a 113 kWh, 800V battery built from 192 lithium-ion pouch cells and backed by a 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty.
Fully active suspension — a first for Bentley — pairs with adaptive two-valve dampers that adjust independently at each corner in real time, eliminating the need for anti-roll bars entirely, while standard electronic all-wheel steering uses up to five degrees of rear steering angle to bring the turning circle down to 11.1 meters. Standard braking uses 420mm front and 370mm rear iron discs, with an optional carbon silicon carbide ceramic system stepping up to 440mm front and 410mm rear discs — jointly the largest in the world alongside other Bentleys — available in several caliper colors.
Built for Daily Use as Much as Long Trips
Despite measuring five meters long — the shortest four-door in Bentley’s current lineup — the Torcal offers a 460-liter boot plus a 90-liter front storage area, and its 11.1-meter turning circle keeps it maneuverable in cities. Range reaches up to 375 miles (600 km), with 400 kW charging taking the battery from 10-80% in under 20 minutes, or adding 100 miles of range in about seven minutes.
A 25-sensor array of radars and cameras supports a wide range of driver assistance features, including a system that can automatically reverse to a previously identified spot to let an obstacle pass on a narrow road, dedicated towing, garage and parallel-parking assistance, remote parking via app, and radar-controlled powered doors that open and close automatically — closing when a passenger fastens their seatbelt or the driver presses the brake pedal.
A new Frosted Diamond switchable-glass sunroof adds further control over cabin light and atmosphere.
An Engine Sound Built From Real Instruments
Rather than simply synthesizing an engine note, Bentley’s development team built the Torcal’s “Bentley Dynamic Symphony” using real drums, viola and bass guitar, aiming to recreate the emotional feedback loop long associated with a Bentley V8 rather than imitate it electronically. The sound scales with torque demand and vehicle speed, grows louder in Sport mode, and can be switched off entirely.
Other sound details carry the same handcrafted approach — turn signals use a recording of a hammer striking leather taken in Bentley’s own upholstery workshop, and the touchscreen’s confirmation tone comes from the sound of a crystal glass. Audio hardware starts with a 620W, 16-speaker system, with an optional 1,780W, 28-speaker Naim setup adding seat shakers, headrest speakers and Dolby Atmos 7.1.
Four Modes, Built Around How You Want to Feel
The Torcal’s four Experience Modes go beyond typical drive-mode settings, coordinating light, sound, climate and digital information around different moods.
Bentley Mode blends comfort and craftsmanship for a refined, driver-focused feel; Comfort Mode calms the cabin and offers a “digital detox” option that hides all but essential information; Sport sharpens the soundtrack and visual response for a more purposeful drive; and Refresh increases fresh-air circulation and brightens the cabin for an invigorating reset.
Supporting tech includes curved OLED screens unique to Bentley for deeper contrast, facial recognition that loads a driver’s saved preferences automatically, a phone-based Mobile Device Key, and an augmented-reality head-up display that projects navigation and ADAS alerts directly into the driver’s view.
New Materials, Sustainably Sourced
Bentley developed several new materials specifically for the Torcal, including the world’s first 100% Merino wool automotive fabric, created with Somerset weaver Fox Brothers and certified under the Responsible Wool Standard.
A new Ombré Walnut finish from Mulliner layers up to 1,000 slices of reclaimed walnut off-cuts and recycled paper into a striking four-tone gradient, while a Sunburst Aluminium finish reinterprets Bentley’s classic engine-turned dashboard look with a precision three-way brush pattern.
The interior color palette spans 15 olive tan leather shades (including new Teal, Terra and Glaze options), matching Dinamica trim, five Merino wool colors, six wood veneers and six piano finishes.
Two Models at Launch
The Torcal launches in two versions. The core model produces 821 PS and 1,194 Nm, reaching 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and a 155 mph top speed, and comes standard with satin silver brightware and Open Pore Crown Cut Walnut trim.
The sportier Torcal S delivers the full 888 PS and 1,350 Nm with Launch Control engaged, hitting 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and a 162 mph top speed, paired with a more aggressive look that includes black exterior brightware, dark rear lamps, a rear diffuser with sport sills and front bumper strakes, red brake calipers, S-specific badging, a dedicated interior color and stitch treatment, sport pedals, standard piano black veneer, and illuminated treadplates with dynamic “waterfall” mood lighting.
