Before sketching the fifth-generation Tucson, Hyundai engineers started with the car’s own history: 22 years of global sales data.

At the “All-New Tucson Tech & Experience Day” in Korea on October 6, 2026, Choi Sang-in, senior research engineer at Hyundai’s MLV Project Team 1, said the data showed something simple about Tucson buyers. They don’t pick the car for one reason.

They want fuel efficiency, driving fun, SUV toughness and everyday practicality all in the same package. That finding became the brief: a compact SUV with “no compromises anywhere.” The product slogan is “The Empowered.”

When did the Hyundai Tucson pass 10 million sales?

The Tucson passed 10 million cumulative sales in 2025, 21 years after its 2004 debut. It is the third Hyundai Motor Group model to reach that mark, after the Elantra (Avante) and Accent, and the group’s first SUV to do so.

Choi stressed that the sales were spread evenly across markets rather than driven by one region. North America, South America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and Africa all contributed. In practice, that meant the new Tucson had to satisfy buyers on five continents at the same time.

What are the six core values of the All-New Tucson?

Hyundai built the All-New Tucson around six values: premium design, a next-generation hybrid system, interior space, ride comfort, safety and digital life.

The design came from Hyundai’s design and press-forming teams working together, so that the “Art of Steel” design language could make it to production without being simplified. The hybrid follows Hyundai’s view that a modern hybrid has to deliver performance and electrified driving character, not just fuel economy.

The cabin targets space comparable to the class above. Thicker acoustic glass, larger sound-insulation areas and revised suspension and chassis structures address noise and vibration. For safety, Hyundai reworked the body structure and says its target is top ratings from global safety assessment programs. Results have not yet been published.

What infotainment and AI features does the new Tucson get?

The All-New Tucson gets Hyundai’s next-generation Pleos Connect infotainment system, the generative AI agent Gleo AI, and access to the Pleos App Market.

Gleo AI controls functions such as climate and navigation by voice. The app market offers vehicle-specific third-party apps, including map-based services and games.
