Audi introduced the RS 5 as a hot-lap program vehicle at the Miami Grand Prix, marking the model’s debut in Formula 1 support activities.
The high-performance plug-in hybrid represents Audi Sport’s first electrified RS model, featuring powertrain architecture aligned with current-generation F1 hybrid systems.
The RS 5 delivers maximum system output of 470 kW (639 hp) and achieves top speeds reaching 285 km/h, positioning it as the designated vehicle for F1 Pirelli Hot Laps. This program enables guests to experience Grand Prix circuits alongside professional racing drivers in production vehicles during race weekends.
Two RS 5 models operate as unmodified production vehicles at select Formula 1 races, demonstrating dynamic driving capabilities without additional technical alterations. The vehicles feature Titanium exterior color with Lava Red rings on front, rear, and wheel hub caps mounted on black rims—design elements inspired by the Audi R26 race car color palette.
Powertrain Combines V6 Biturbo with Electric Motor
Audi Sport integrated a 2.9-liter V6 biturbo combustion engine producing 375 kW (510 hp) with a 130 kW electric motor, creating what the manufacturer characterizes as new class standards for combined performance and fuel economy. The hybrid configuration represents the first instance of Audi Sport pairing these specific powertrain components in an RS model.

The vehicle incorporates quattro with Dynamic Torque Control, described as a world-first technical innovation. The electromechanical torque vectoring system directs drive torque to the wheel with higher grip levels, particularly during cornering. Audi positions this technology as unleashing the RS 5’s dynamic potential through precise power distribution.
Racing Veterans Operate Hot Lap Demonstrations
Experienced racing engineers from Audi Sport prepare and maintain the vehicles. Dindo Capello and Markus Winkelhock serve as drivers—both having achieved significant competition results with Audi previously.
Capello secured five Sebring 12 Hours victories and two American Le Mans Series championships, establishing particular success in US motorsport markets. Winkelhock won the Nürburgring 24-hour race three times and briefly led during his sole Formula 1 race appearance in 2007.

Winkelhock stated the quattro with Dynamic Torque Control demonstrates advantages in tight corners like those surrounding Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, characterizing the system as tangible Vorsprung durch Technik combining maximum sportiness with everyday comfort.
Strategic US Market Positioning and Product Launches
Audi deliberately selected Miami for the RS 5 hot-lap premiere as part of broader US market expansion efforts. The United States represents the world’s second-largest automotive market, where Audi aims to increase presence.
The brand plans to rejuvenate and expand its SUV lineup through the Q9 launch alongside the new Q7 this year. The Q3 model line became available in US markets during March, currently promoted through a brand campaign featuring actors Morgan Freeman and Chase Infiniti.
Audi projects offering the freshest premium SUV portfolio in the US market by year-end, with the Q9 serving as portfolio flagship tailored for American buyers.

Marco Schubert, Board Member for Sales and Marketing at AUDI AG, characterized Formula 1 as a platform to infuse the brand with emotional appeal while achieving sustainable US growth. He indicated the Q9 launch will occur later in 2026.
In April, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded six Audi models its highest safety rating, positioning the brand as premium segment leader in vehicle safety.
Formula 1 Growth Trajectory in American Markets
Formula 1 experiences strongest growth in US markets compared to other regions. The three 2025 US races in Miami, Austin, and Las Vegas sold out completely, with television viewership reaching new seasonal highs.

Audi of America and Audi Revolut F1 Team deployed activations in Miami including an interactive experience in the Wynwood Art District, known for creative murals. Coinciding with the Miami Grand Prix, the first special release from the adidas x Audi Revolut F1 Team collection launched.
The Miami Grand Prix appearance represents Audi’s first US factory team race participation since the 2021 Formula E event in New York. The brand competes with the R26 and F1 hybrid powertrain developed in Germany. The Miami Grand Prix commenced Sunday, May 3 at 4 PM local time (10 PM Central European Time).
