Renault Filante, the brand’s new international standard-bearer

Renault Filante opens a new chapter in the brand’s international expansion. A new flagship for the global range with its styling and technology, Renault Filante is a strategic part of Renault’s 2027 International Game Plan, intended to consolidate brand presence on key markets in Asia and the Middle East.

Filante: more than a symbol, a manifesto

The name of Filante refers to Renault’s heritage in two ways. First, the Étoile Filante, the legendary prototype that smashed several world speed records at the Bonneville Salt Lake Flats in 1956.

In 2025, Renault used the historic name of Filante for its electric concept car: Renault Filante Record 2025. With its streamlined design, largely inspired by aeronautics, it set a new efficiency record last December: 1,008 km in less than 10 hours, at an average speed of 102 km/h, and a consumption of 7,8 kWh/100 km.

Filante also refers to a lesser-known chapter in Renault’s history: the star (étoile in French) was used as a distinguishing mark on the brand’s top-spec models in the 1930s.

It identified Renault’s most prestigious vehicles, designed to showcase French expertise among the elite and on international markets. By reviving this symbol, Renault Filante is underlining its ties with a premium heritage that has contributed to shaping Renault’s identity.

These two aspects of brand heritage – embracing technology, design and history – position Renault Filante as far more than just a new model. They underline the brand’s determination to reassert its presence in the global premium segment, drawing on both heritage and innovation.

A model with a key role in consolidating Renault’s presence in South Korea

Built in South Korea at the Busan plant, Renault Filante symbolises the industrial and technological expertise of Renault Korea, with a design and driving experience tailored to local expectations.

Positioned in the E segment, Renault Filante embodies Renault’s global push upmarket while also complementing its range in South Korea. In this region, the D and E segments hold market share of 51.6% (-1.4% compared with 2024). The E segment alone has a share of 26.2%, with SUVs accounting for around 16%.

“Renault Filante represents the best of what Renault group and Renault Korea can achieve together. Combining Renault’s global DNA in design and innovation with the technical excellence of Renault Korea, it is backed by the advanced capabilities of the Korean automotive industry.”

Nicolas Paris, CEO of Renault Korea

A cornerstone of the brand’s 2027 International Game Plan

Renault Filante is a key part of the strategic 2027 International Game Plan for profitable growth on international markets. Between 2024 and 2027, Renault will have launched eight new vehicles outside Europe, including five in segments C and D, in order to position the brand in the segments generating the highest value. Renault’s ambition is for one in every three sales outside Europe to be for a hybrid or electric vehicle, within the same timeframe.

As part of this plan, Renault Filante is taking center stage alongside Kardian, Duster, Boreal and Koleos. Topping the range, this distinctive and daring crossover meets the needs of markets in South Korea, the Gulf States and some Latin American countries.

The rollout of Renault Filante will begin in March 2026 in South Korea, before gradually continuing to part of Latin America (Colombia, Chile, Uruguay, etc.), and then to the Gulf States in early 2027.

“We are opening a new chapter in the Renault International Game Plan 2027, here in Korea which plays a central role in our global ambitions. After the launch of Grand Koleos in October 2024, we are now about to unveil another flagship for Korea: Filante, the fifth new-generation vehicle of our international plan, designed for markets beyond Europe. Today is an important milestone, because it proves one thing very clearly:
we are sticking to our roadmap and delivering on our promises. Filante perfectly illustrates our approach, combining Renault’s French DNA – emotional design, humanised technology  and best in class electrified technology – with Korean excellence to meet local customer expectations.”
